Glenella Quarry Pty Ltd currently operates two quarries – Glenella Quarry (Cowra) and Bogo (Bookham, near Yass) both located in NSW, Australia.
We are committed to setting the highest standards possible for quality, service and value for decorative pebble, clay, sand and hard rock aggregates. We operate as partners with our customers to meet and exceed their expectations. Our core value is to treat all we touch – customers, employees and the land – with dignity and respect.
Having been blessed with magnificent natural resources, we consider ourselves stewards of the environment and partners in protecting it for future generations. Therefore, we conduct our business in an environmentally sound and ecologically sustainable manner to protect and enhance the lands in which we operate.
Essential to the success of our business model, we provide our employees with a safe, family-oriented, work environment that encourages personal and professional growth.
Glenella has built its reputation on honesty, integrity, and a continued supply of high-quality products. Recognising that there is no business without customers, our objective is to continue to develop long-term relationships with both our vendors and customers. Providing high quality products and services when and where needed, our goal is to achieve 100% customer satisfaction. At Glenella, we understand that stone, clay, sand, granite and hard rock aggregates are more than building materials; they are the foundations of construction that is beautiful, functional and built to withstand the test of time.
For some time now, Glenella has invested in research and development for the many potential uses of its superior quality quartz pebble. Due to the high silica content (Si02 99.6 – 99.8%), we are exploring avenues which our pebbles will be used for the production of photovoltaic (PV) wavers for solar that generate electricity by converting solar energy into a clean, renewable power source. Glenella’s quartz pebble is suitable for silica metal and alloy production as well.
In 2000, Silica Australia purchased the Mine Block (400 acres) to secure a significant amount of natural quartz silica resource required for the proposed silica metal plant to be located at Wallerawang, just outside of Lithgow. The Silica Australia project was to mine 80,000 – 100,000 tonnes of quartz pebble and a similar amount of by-product (sand/basalt) per annum for 25+ years. The Silica Australia project was aimed at harvesting high-grade quartz silica pebble (SiO2 99.6 – 99.8%) from the Glenella property. It was then to be transported, via road, to Wallerawang to be smelted and combined with carboneous products (charcoal, etc) to product silica metal. The project relied on an accompanying charcoal plant, which was to be situated on the south coast. The charcoal plant met with considerable resistance from preservationists due to the number of trees required to be harvested and the amount of smoke produced by a plant of that nature. After all Federal, State and Local Government approvals were granted, the company pulled out as a challenge in the Land and Environment court relating to the charcoal plant proved to destabilize the entire operation. Therefore, after millions of dollars were spent lobbying, and conducting surveys and reporting, Silica Australia pulled out of the deal. The product, of course, remained and we are now proud to explore more environmentally sound projects than the one that set the stage for the establishment of Glenella Quarry. We look forward to a future of mutually beneficial development with our customers and community.
